You can quit smoking forever!

You can quit smoking forever!

If you are thinking of quitting smoking cigarettes then you must know how bad they are for you and those around you and I applaud your decision. You have also probably heard many nightmare tales of how hard it is to quit which may be scary and demotivating. To help you kick your addiction to cigarettes and the addictive component nicotine here are 10 tips and ways to quit smoking cigarettes that can show you it can be done and it is not as hard as people can make it out to be if you have a plan!

1. Write a list of reason you LIKE smoking
It may seem counter to your needs to quit smoking but ignoring why you like smoking and why you continue to smoke is important so that psychologically you can overcome these things or leave them behind or replace them with something. Ignoring them simply means when cravings hit those reasons subconsciously attack your reasoning and resolve.

2. Make a list of reasons it will be hard to quit
Wow, I sound so negative so far which I am sorry for but bear with me! Honesty is massive part of overcoming an addiction to nicotine and cigarettes because many people try to quit without being honest with themselves first and those people usually fail on that attempt. So write down a list of reasons you think might make it hard to quit or the reasons you know from experience have made it harder.

3. Write a list of reasons you want to quit
Ok now we are getting more positive! Again HONESTY is the big word here for the same reason stated before. You need as many solid positive reasons for quitting cigarettes so that these ways to quit smoking cigarettes work! HINT: List them in a positive way so instead of writing “Scared of lung cancer” write “I want to be healthy and live a long life!” … negative reasons are not as strong as positive ones.

4. Write down a list of ways to tackle cravings
When the cravings hit all reasoning and resolve can suddenly go out the window as you may already have experienced and is not something to be ashamed of. You just need a way to overcome these things, having something to distract you from the cravings is a very important things to do whether it is to get your joggers on and hit the pavement or if you are at work to maybe chew some gum, get a coffee or clean up your office space.

5. Compare lists
Now you have a few sheets of paper (or for some people nearly a book!) you can compare your negative and positive reasons. This is important because often if you have more reasons you like smoking compared to reasons you want to quit smoking cigarettes then you may not be ready to quit and might need to find some more reasons and support to quit. Also if your list of things to do to overcome cravings do not have an answer to all your reasons why quitting might be hard then you may need to revisit the former list and add to it. Once you have done this not only have you been introspective enough to see things clearly and plan ahead you have created the base work for a contract with yourself to quit which is a cornerstone of quitting cigarettes for good.

6. Set a quit date
Having firm goals is important when dealing with addictions and when looking for ways to quit smoking cigarettes this is a vital step. Having a set date you set for yourself and can plan for means you will not make snap decision when you are not ready and you will also force yourself to commit to a date than a vague “I will quit next week” then that week never seems to come …

7. Throw out all smoking paraphernalia
Get rid of them when that quit date hits! Get rid of your smokes, if you hold on to any cigarettes it is a temptation and a subconscious easy way out .. if you are serious break the fags and toss them out, if you can’t do that you are not ready to quit. Also get rid of lighters and anything else that has to do with smoking in your space.

8. Busy your hands and mouth
One part of the addiction to cigarettes that people ignore in favor of concentrating on the dependency effects of nicotine is the habit that has formed over many years of the actual ACTION of smoking. IF you carry some toothpicks you can suck on or some nuts you can crack open and eat you will busy your hands looking for a familiar action, no need for anything terribly elaborate just keep them busy or they may stray to a cigarette.

9. State your intention to quit smoking cigarettes
Tell your friends, tell your family and tell your co-workers that you plan to quit smoking cigarettes for a two reasons. One, you need a support network to help you so it is good to get as many well wishers and helpers as you can. Two if you are not announcing it does not become REAL to you and is less substantial because it is like you are a keeping a secret often as many do not want the stigma of people knowing they failed if it comes to that which is just another excuse!

10. Stay Positive, Quit positive
Research has shown that those that quit when in a good and positive mood stand a much greater chance of achieving their goal. IF you plan to quit and map out your ways to quit smoking cigarettes while under stress of when depressed it does not bode well as a negative reason as has been mentioned is no where near as strong as positive ones!

This list may only scratch the surface of all the challenges and ways to quit that you may need to kick your habit for you particular situation. If you want to be armed with all the tools & information that can give you every chance to be smoke free forever click below to find out more.

The internet is expanding at an amazing rate and with that comes an amazing expansion in porn sites and another less than pleasant consequence that is internet porn addiction. The anonymity of the web coupled with the ease of access to pornography has led to many people becoming a slave to the adult entertainment industry that can at the very least waste enormous amounts of time to playing a massive role in destroying their health and relationships. Overcoming porn addiction has become something that many people who feel they are losing focus on their life as they are drawn back again and again to the computer need to know about. If you are in such a position here are 3 tips that may help you kick your addiction.

1. Block Those Sites!

While this is not a cure for the psychological problems that are at the root cause of your addiction this is akin to throwing away your cigarettes and asking your local tobacco shop to not sell it to you even if you ask. By denying yourself the instant access even if you can get around it the ease of finding porn is reduced and it becomes less appealing. If you are subscribed to any porn sites then unsubscribe right now also!

2. Find An Online Hobby

When you are on the computer it is all too easy to get sidetracked and start checkout porn again. You must develop an action that happens when you are about to search for porn that will draw you away from it. Anything can be better but do not swap one addiction for another, playing some simple online games that interest you can help or research something that can benefit you or even just get out of your chair and do some exercise are better options. The main thing is that whatever distraction from the porn you choose has actually got to be invigorating or it may seem dull in comparison and you will not stick with it.

3. Do Not Isolate Yourself

Often people who are addicted to porn do so because they have isolated themselves from others, even in a busy house if your computer is locked away where no one can talk to you then maybe you should move to a less isolated space, this will not only stop you from looking up porn if people are around but the more interaction you have with people the less self involved you will be. If you live alone try to develop some online contacts that are talkative, instead of looking up porn use some instant messaging programs to talk to other people, it has been seen that while you are engaged with other people behaviors like porn addiction can be moved to the back of your mind.

While these may not treat the absolute core issues with porn addiction they can give you a fighting chance to make the time to be introspective enough to deal with the underlying causes of addiction which can include low self esteem, rejection issues and much more.

While the debate over legalizing marijuana still rages and the pros and cons of this drug are debated endlessly those who have developed an unhealthy addiction to this drug know all too well the negative effects it can bring to ones life. From the massive amount of time that disappears from your life, the amount of money you keep shelling out to feed the addiction to the frightening lack of clarity and memory that comes from long term use, pot smokers looking to kick the habit keep looking for the answer on how to quit smoking marijuana.

Thankfully there are a few key facts about marijuana addiction that can help you quit marijuana forever. The first thing you must know is that marijuana is not a chemically addictive drug like cigarettes or cocaine which contain certain chemicals that give the user withdrawal symptoms that have physical side effects that only the drug itself seem to be able to cure. Marijuana has none of these properties which means that addiction to pot is a physiological addiction.

Psychological addiction is similar to gambling addiction or alcohol addiction in that the user seeks the high of this activity because they desperately want it for reasons to do with their state of mind not what their body craves. While a problem gambler may keep gambling for the elation of winning and the chance to gain back his losses a marijuana addict must have a core set of issues that bring tem back to the drug time and time again. For some it is simple as being a relaxant they rely on to help them calm down, others are drawn back because all of their friends also smoke and they do it to be social, others still may have mental problems that cut deep and the high of marijuana smoking is the only thing they feel can help them escape their constant torment.

In any case however the solution is similar, find these core issues you have before you try to give up on marijuana! If you do not have a firm grasp on the issues that keep you coming back to the drug you will never be able to quit smoking pot and keep sliding back into using it again and again.

So before you even start trying to quit smoking marijuana take this advice and look at the root causes of your addiction which may not be the same as why you started smoking either. I hope this can help you to quit marijuana and live the life you want to lead!

Asking someone to stop smoking marijuana is a thorny issue for so many reasons I may not have time to list them all but the fact of the matter is that usage of marijuana can cause extreme friction between friends, family and lovers. This friction has led to merely unpleasant to sometimes horrific scenarios of break ups, ostracism, estrangement which can all too often leave the addict further in the grips of marijuana. It seems like it should be a no brainer then but let’s take a step back for a moment.

Should you ask them to quit smoking weed?

  • Will this cause any problems?

  • Do you have the right to ask them to stop?
  • Do you know why you are asking them to stop?

These are all important questions to think of when you are deciding to confront someone about their marijuana addiction because if done in the wrong way with the wrong reasons you could cause a rift that is harder to heal and the friction between you will also still remain.

The reasons WHY you want them to quit smoking weed are the most important and these reasons need to be well defined to yourself before you even consider broaching the topic with this marijuana user. Many might simply say ‘because I do not like it’ but that is not a convincing argument to any pot smoker. Instead you need to make sure you understand and can express truthfully your own motives. Also, when considering should you ask them to quit smoking weed you should make sure that the reasons you have and the outcomes this would give would have benefits to BOTH of you or it may be seen as a selfish act even if you are sincerely concerned for their well being.

If you can answer all these questions and believe that you can broach the topic without incurring anger from the other person then yes you can ask them to stop smoking marijuana but you must be prepared to be drawn into an argument and be able to stay calm and focused and positive during it because an addict needs:

  • Help, not condemnation

  • Support, not shame
  • And understanding, not retaliation

A question that has been asked by many people and I have been considering of late is are all addictions the same and if so do they all have common treatment methods?

I am a little divided in my own mind on the subject because there are a lot of similarity between any sort of addictions leading to a view that there may be a lot of very common elements that can be treated in the same way.

There are also many differences though in circumstance and in the case of drug addiction the dependence caused by addictive chemicals.

To me this means that logically we can treat the parallel issues in a similar way which primarily deals with the psychological addiction to a drug or behavior. Through introspection of the root causes of what makes people succumb to this type of compulsive behavior we can bring to light the reasons underneath the excuses and perceived need of this addiction.

From there things may vary but motivation for a better life beyond the addiction is still common but how you apply this motivation to be relevant to each type of addiction is where we start to vary in approach.

So are all addictions the same? I cannot say yes but there are enough links between every sort of addiction to be able to tie them together under a single banner so that we may learn about one addiction from others as well.

Just another interesting tidbit about addiction in the news and media.

“Now, a new television documentary examines this compulsive habit. Somebody’s Daughter: A Journey to Freedom from Pornography tells the story of three men and one married couple involved in a Christian ministry who overcame their addiction to porn.”

While i feel that overly christian tones may be offputting to some i do think that Christian media has done a lot of good to help those who are addicted to sex and pornography perhaps because Christians are more keenly aware of the problem and find suffering from it a much heavier burden.

In any case the full story is here: http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/488603.aspx

Hey just wanted to post a good news story about addiction i found while browsing.

In South Africa one adiction treatment program teaches people to surf as a way to reward them and find ways to enjoy life without drugs.

Sounds pretty cool … full story below:

Former South African addict helps others kick the habit – by surfing

Cape Town, South Africa – They’ve ridden the high and lows of addiction and now a group of recovering addicts is learning to surf the waves as an unlikely part of their rehabilitation program.

Patients at the respected Tabankulu Recovery Center in Cape Town are encouraged to take up the sport to help wean them off their various addictions and personal problems.

Once a week the assortment of people struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, bulimia, and other troubles pick up their boards and learn to surf in the waters around South Africa’s “Mother City.”
